Speaking buddy Programme

Who can apply?

The main conditions for participants English speakers are:

  • Age: Applicants must be 14–17 years old.

  • Native English speaker OR any fluent speaker (C1 minimum level based on official exams results): The programme is intended for teenagers with English speaking fluency (C1 min level). Speaking Buddies come from a variety of countries and accents are welcomed.

  • Previous participation in an English Quest programme, an advantage!

  • Personality: Applicants should be:

    • Friendly and sociable.
    • Confident chatting with new people.
    • Willing to participate enthusiastically in discussions, games, sports, projects, and other programme activities.
    • Patient, supportive, and encouraging with English learners.

  • English-only rule: During the programme, participants are expected to communicate only in English, even if they know another language.

  • Full participation: English speaking buddies are expected to take part in all scheduled activities, including classes and one-to-one conversation sessions with students.

  • Conduct requirements: Speaking buddies must:

    • Follow staff instructions.
    • Behave respectfully toward others.
    • Attend activities on time.
    • Comply with camp rules and the local law of the country where the programme is taking place.
    • Any serious misconduct can result in dismissal from the camp.

Additional conditions

  • English-speaking Buddies apply individually through the programme.

  • Friends may apply together, but each must submit a separate application, and acceptance of one does not guarantee acceptance of the other.

  • Mobile phone use is limited during the camp, with designated times for contacting family.

What included

If accepted, the programme includes:

  • Full board (all meals), from dinner on arrival day until breakfast on departure day.
  • All excursions and other activities included in the programme during the stay.
  • A Speaking Buddy welcome kit.
  • Medical insurance while at camp. The max amount to be subsided for acquiring a policy is 50 euro. The policy needs to be obtained at the country of residence of the Speaking Buddy.
  • Training and guidance on the Speaking Buddy role before the programme begins.

What participants pay

The English-speaking companions are required to pay a participation fee of 680 euros for a 7-night stay or 1090 euros for a 10-night stay programme.

This gives to the Speaking Buddies a Discount of 50% from the official price of such a programme.

This fee covers:

  • Administration
  • Shared room (2–3 persons), 3–4* star hotel or modern uni residence with private bathroom
  • Premium excursions and fun activities
  • Airport/station meet-and-greet
  • Insurance – medical coverage
  • The welcome kit
